Kia ora,

Following the move to mandatory eGate, we have seen an increase in red lane outcomes caused by changes to delivery checks occurring after booking.

Previously, when using an express pin via PortConnect:

  • Any change to the delivery check would result in the express PIN being suspended, and this change was visible to dispatchers within PortConnect

 Since moving to eGate:

  • These delivery check changes are no longer visible to dispatchers in the same way
  • Resulting in trucks arriving at the terminal with incorrect delivery details, and increased red lane processing and disruption to drivers

To support you and reduce disruption, we are: Reinstating the ability to request an Express pin in PortConnect

Please note: Pre-Gate kiosks will not be reinstated

Updated process from 1500 hours Wednesday 20th May 2026

To help avoid red lane outcomes, the process will now be:

  1. Express pin completed in PortConnect
  2. VBS booking allocated to the driver
  3. Dispatcher verifies the delivery check prior to arrival at POAL

This final check is critical to ensure the delivery details have not changed after booking.

This change is intended to:

  • Reduce red lane transactions
  • Minimise delays for drivers at the gate
  • Provide better visibility and control for dispatchers
