Take a trip back in time on a legendary steam tug

WHAT: Celebrate our city during this year’s Auckland Heritage Festival with Ports of Auckland. Take a trip back in time on a 90-minute cruise aboard the legendary William C Daldy steam tugboat, one of the port’s first tugs dating back to 1935. These family-friendly tours weave in and out of the port’s wharves and sail under the Auckland Harbour Bridge where the Daldy once famously saved a piece from floating away during construction.

WHEN: 24-25 September, 1-2 & 8-9 October at 10.00am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

WHERE: Boarding takes place at Hobson Wharf West, just behind the New Zealand Maritime Museum, in the Viaduct Harbour.

WHY: Ports of Auckland funds and organises these tours to allow Aucklanders to enjoy a living piece of our maritime heritage. Proceeds from ticket sales going to the William C Daldy Preservation Society, a volunteer organisation that works to keep the Daldy in magnificent shape, and the Ports of Auckland Education Programme, providing Auckland schools with free educational tours of their port.

BOOKINGS: Bookings are essential as tours fill up fast. Visit www.heritage-port-sailings.eventbrite.co.nz to book your tour now.

MEDIA: Arrange a one-on-one tour of the Daldy at its Hobson Wharf berth prior to the festival commencing on Saturday, 24 September. Call Alexandra Ropati on 027 809 2285 or email [email protected]. Complimentary tour booking codes can also be provided to media wishing to take a tour during the festival.

VISUALS: Photos can be found here. A video from last year’s festival can be found here.
