POAL has, with the assistance of TOLL NZ, operated a small intermodal hub at Triton Avenue, Mount Maunganui since 2015 handling road and rail served containers through the site.

At the time of POAL commencing operations with TOLL the market environment was quite different from what it is today. Rail services were committed on a round trip basis but with increasing intermodal costs, variable volume flows and overall operating costs, the ability to sustainably offer a reliable service to customers has become harder to achieve.

Given these factors, POAL has elected to not renew the land lease with the landlord and all services will cease effectively from 4th September 2021 with final containers handled no later than 31st August 2021 to enable final clearing of the site by 4th September 2021. This means that for any containers to be railed from Triton Ave to Auckland the last load out will be by midday on 3rd September 2021, and for containers needing to move from Auckland to Triton Ave the last available service will be the service departing POAL at 0900 hours on 27th of August 2021.

We will continue to evaluate opportunities in the region and revert to those customers who were regular users of the services should a viable alternative solution be found.
