Port of Auckland Limited was sentenced in the Auckland District Court on 1 December 2023 in relation to two offences under sections 36(1)(a), 48(1) and 48(2)(c) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

The charges arose from an investigation into an incident on 30 August 2020 where Pala'amo Kalati (Amo) was tragically killed when a container fell from an operating crane.

Our thoughts remain with Amo's whā​nau and friends who have been so profoundly affected by the tragedy.

The port has taken significant steps in improving safety in the three years since the incident.
