Bunkering

Ports of Auckland's Waitematā seaport is home to the state-of-the-art bunker barge the Awanuia, which has been built to comply with all international standards and designed to minimise marine pollution.

Owned by Seafuels, a refuelling vessel service for cruise, commercial and container ships, the Awanuia is chartered to Z Energy to provide safe bunkering services to vessels calling Ports of Auckland.

In 2015, Ports of Auckland welcomed a 10-year charter between Seafuels and Z Energy. The long-term partnership provides certainty of fuel supply for ships calling Auckland, which is essential to the continued success of the port and crucial to meeting Auckland's growing freight demand. Also in 2015, Z Energy acknowledged Seafuels for reaching two years of operation with no lost-time injuries incurred.

The Awanuia collects 380cst and MGO from the Marsden Point Oil Refinery through a purpose-built berth, transfering it directly into  ships at their berths at the Waitematā seaport or at a nearby Auckland anchorage.
