Our network of freight hubs allows customers
to drop off their exports at their nearest hub and we do the
rest, sustainably linking Kiwi exporters to the rest of the world. Our freight hubs are located at Wiri in South Auckland; Mt Maunganui in the
Bay of Plenty; and
Longburn, near Palmerston North. In February 2016 we announced plans to open a new hub at Northgate in Waikato.
We work with a number of partners to operate our freight hubs. CONLINXX, a subsidiary of Nexus Logistics, manages the South Auckland Freight Hub. Longburn Freight Hub is a joint venture between Ports of Auckland, Icepack and Napier Port. Toll Holdings will operate our Bay of Plenty Freight Hub on our behalf.
These hubs all
operate as an open platform, available to all stakeholders in the supply chain
and offering regional exporters a seamless, flexible service to overseas
markets. Our target is to increase rail throughput from 13% currently to 30% over next 5-10 years or sooner. The
network enables us to better balance the volumes of imports and exports so that
we are not shipping out empty containers, but rather New Zealand exports.
