Port of Auckland provides towing, lines-handling and pilotage services to shipping lines and the wider maritime community.

Our Harbour Control team schedules commercial movements around the harbour to ensure that adequate resources are available for each movement. It has an advisory role for providing information to ships and other craft entering the harbour limits.  The use of a sophisticated electronic charting system in conjunction with the Automated Identification System (AIS) assists with keeping track of the movements of all ships as they transit in and out of the harbour. Additionally, we also provide marine services on the Whangarei Harbour, through our North Tugz business.

We are fully committed to compliance with the New Zealand Port and Harbour Marine Safety Code. The Code is a voluntary national standard designed to ensure the safe management of marine activities in ports and harbours. The Code relies on a collaborative structure between Maritime New Zealand, Harbourmasters and Port Operators, and provides a standard against which Port of Auckland can measure itself, and be measured by others.

For more information for commercial vessels visiting Auckland, visit the Auckland Council Harbourmaster's website.

Hydrographic surveys

We operate a dedicated hydrographic survey team as part of our wider marine services team. Hydrographic surveys are conducted to ensure that our port meets requirements on the harbours that we operate. Collectively, our team members have years of experience in planning and conducting hydrographic surveys for national and international charting and navigational requirements. They are highly skilled in precise navigation, operations and tidal processes, which is critical in the collection of accurate data. We also carry out contract work to deliver a range of coastal management and survey services. Contact the team by emailing [email protected].
