Immediate action on safety report recommendations
Our safety and wellbeing strategic plan is in place and includes work on the recommendations from the independent safety review. Seven of the 45 actions are now complete and 29 are in progress, the remainder will be completed by June 2022. We are working closely with our people to ensure they are engaged and are at the heart of this process and are pleased to see progress being made.

Navigating global shipping disruption
We have worked hard to keep freight moving through the port and supporting our customers, throughout the period of global supply chain disruption. The disruption and its impact on costs is maybe best represented by The World Container Index (WCI), which provides a weekly assessment of container freight rates. The WCI saw an increase of 368% from June 2020 to June 2021.
Supporting the flow of goods through the port
Our Multi-Cargo wharves have seen volumes bounce back to higher-than expected levels. We have worked with our partners to ensure we keep goods moving. Car volumes are increasing, but dwell times are being maintained at industry leading rates. We have also seen increased volumes of bulk commodities as we support the economic recovery.
Progressing our journey to zero-emissions
We are committed to supporting New Zealand as it works towards being a low-carbon economy. We are playing our part to reduce our carbon footprint and protect our environment.
