Operational Update 2 October 2018

Some of you may be aware (or seeing on Social media) that there was a fire at the Port this morning

Good Afternoon,

Some of you may be aware (or seeing on Social media) that there was a fire at the Port this morning with one of our Reach stackers in the Rail exchange area.

The driver is safe, although has suffered some minor burns and is presently being treated.

The area in question is sealed off to Terminal traffic but all other Port and Terminal operations are operating.  As a result of the clean-up and NZ Fire Service instruction we will have to cease rail activities today, resuming tomorrow morning.

We will work with those companies expecting rail deliveries today for alternative means of moving the containers off the grid today.

Vessel and gate operations have improved since late last week and we have been able to keep the focus on road and rail movements.

For the first time in several weeks our yard utilisation dropped below 100% on Sunday and is now hovering between 100-105% after discharges from the 'Kota Lembah' and 'Seasmile' (on the berth at present). Truck turn times have been ranging from 75-95% of the trucks turned within 30 minutes since Saturday through to today.

We are evaluating the reinstatement of the berth windows officially from next Monday 8th October 2018 and will communicate this formally to Lines over the next 2 days.

We will continue to carefully manage road VBS and rail slots to ensure we can get the balance of flows working optimally and will start to progressively reinstate demurrage freetime periods from next week onwards.

Will provide a further update at the end of this week.

We wish to advise that as a result of the incident at the Rail exchange area today, rail services to and from the Port have been suspended until 0700 hours tomorrow 3 October. For further details please contact your rail service provider.

Due to the space restrictions in the yard we will manage receival of Empty export containers directly with the Shipping Lines. For further details and alternative arrangements please liaise directly with Maersk Line.
