Be a part of the 40th Ports of Auckland Round the Bays

Be a part of the 40th Ports of Auckland Round the Bays.

Ports of Auckland Round the Bays is just over six weeks away and we’re gearing up for a fantastic day out.

The event on Sunday 18 March marks the 40th anniversary of New Zealand’s largest mass-participation sporting event and the third year of our sponsorship.

Proceeds from the 2012 event will benefit four very worthy charities - Child Cancer Foundation, Kidz First Children’s Hospital, the Make a Wish Foundation and the Garden to Table Trust.

If you haven’t begun training for the 8.4km fun run, there’s still time. Starting Monday 6 February, we have a special training schedule to suit both runners and walkers.

Click here to view and print a training schedule.

If you haven’t booked a site in the Ports of Auckland Shipping Lane at Madills Farm as yet, you can do so online at www.roundthebays.co.nz, referencing "Ports of Auckland, Shipping Lane" in the online comments box.

This is a great opportunity for the industry to come together in one place, and we look forward to seeing you and your team there on Sunday 18 March 2012.

We hope to see you there!

Industrial Action Update

Ports of Auckland has received a 7th strike notice from Maritime Union of New Zealand.

This latest strike is targeted at our internal wharf shuttle service and CONLINXX who deliver this service. It will not affect other port operations

Port CEO, Tony Gibson said that port operations would be maintained and the company is working with CONLINXX to minimise any impact to our customers.

Auckland Anniversary

Oceanbridge Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta.

Monday 30 January 2012 saw the Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta, celebrating 172 years of the city of Auckland.

Ports of Auckland is proud to be a sponsor of the Oceanbridge Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta as well as a keen participant in the Auckland Anniversary Regatta Tug and Towboat Race, and tugs through the ages parade.

During Auckland Anniversary Weekend 2012, 28 to 30 January, Ports of Auckland also hosted a special series of free tours of the seaport by ferry. The 40-minute tours are a great way for Aucklanders of all ages to learn more about the city’s beginnings on the Waitemata and the bustling port that helps make Auckland what it is today

Safety on Site: Speed Limit

Driving at the Port can be an eventful experience with many large trucks and straddles moving around.

Trucks and cars access the Port through the Tinley Street entrance.

Please ensure the following the road rules are adhered to when driving through the Multi Cargo areas:

  • The speed limit is - 30 kph on the roads; 5 kph in sheds and around Engineering.
  • Always wear your seatbelt when in a moving vehicle. These include security vans, shuttle vans and all operations vehicles.
  • Be aware of the large number of blind entry ways and exit points.

Truck Service Statistics

Ports of Auckland is committed to providing a consistent and timely service to road carriers, enabling import and export cargo to be picked up and delivered in a timely way.

Performance against this commitment is measured in several ways, including:

  • the proportion of truck visits entering via the self service kiosks (rather than by manual process in the Road Office)
  • the average time taken to turn a truck
  • the proportion of truck visits turned within 30 minutes
  • the average quantity of containers exchanged per truck visit
  • the average dwell time of import containers in the port.

Included in these truck statistics are two new graphs, Empty Depot Turn around time and on-time performance for VBS bookings of trucking companies.
