Road Alert: Introduction of NextUp text system at Fergusson Road Office

Good Morning,

We wish to advise that on Monday 18 May from 0700 we will be introducing NextUp text system at the Fergusson Road Office. This system will allow truck drivers who are required to come into the Road Office for processing, to secure a place in the queue using their mobile phones and to wait for their turn in the comfort of their trucks.

As you know, during the lockdown we have made changes around the number of drivers that are allowed into the Road Office at any given time. A container was placed outside of the office to assist with the social distancing and to keep drivers out of the weather. With New Zealand moving to Alert Level 2, we believe that the NextUp text system will assist with strengthening the social distancing approach to ensure Health & Safety of the drivers and the Road Office staff.

Please note that there are no changes the way the pre-gate kiosk operates. The NextUP system will only be applicable to the Road Office visits. If the pre-gate kiosk has no paper and you don’t receive a tally note, please use the call button on the kiosk to contact the Road Office for instructions on when to collect your tally note.

A screen has been installed in the truck park closest to the Road Office end. When drivers arrive, they will see a phone number on this screen to which they will need to send a text message* with a code also provided on the screen. Shortly after they will receive a text message advising that they have been added to the Fergusson Road Office queue. Drivers will need to remain in their trucks until they receive a final text message asking them to proceed to the Road Office. Please see below diagram for details:

Text message can only be sent after truck arrives to the port. Trucks that are not in the truck park when the text message is sent will be removed from the queue. Drivers who don’t arrive at the office within 10 minutes of the text message asking them to proceed inside will also be removed from the queue.

Drivers who do not have a mobile phone, will still need to join the queue by getting their despatcher to contact Driver Assist to add them to the queue. When it is the drivers turn to come to the Road Office, a call will be made back to the carriers despatch team for them to proceed inside.

We will have people available to assist drivers during the first week of this new operation. A poster / handout is attached to this advisory for your information and to share within your company.

Please remind the drivers to remember to maintain the 2 meters physical distancing inside and outside of the Road Office.

*There is no extra costs for SMS messages. Ports of Auckland reserves the right to change the text code at any time.

Thank you for your co-operation.
