POAL Comment on Productivity Commission’s Final Report on International Freight Services

Ports of Auckland welcomed the Productivity Commission’s final report on international freight services released today.

“We note that many of POAL’s recommendations and suggestions to the Commission have been incorporated into the final report. POAL’s submission on the Productivity Commission’s Draft Report is available here.

“POAL supports the Commission’s suggestion that to better co-ordinate investment in freight infrastructure, greater use should be made of ‘facilitated discussion’ models. In that regard, POAL will be an active participant in the recently announced Upper North Island Freight Plan.

POAL also notes the imperative for ports across New Zealand to improve their performance, given that they play a critical part of the logistics chain and role of the freight sector to achieve better productivity growth and maintain New Zealanders living standards.  Improving efficiency and productivity is a focus for POAL.
