Coronavirus Update and New entry process for Ports of Auckland

To All Shipping Agents and Operational Shipping Line Managers

Good Afternoon,

For the health and wellness of our people and those around us, Ports of Auckland will be changing the entry processes for vessels as of 0000hrs 7 February 2020.

  1. Ships must complete the attached form and return it to Harbour Control 24 hours prior to arrival. Further, 90 minutes before the vessels arrival the Master must VHF Radio Harbour Control to confirm that nothing has changed with regard to the health of the crew.
  2. No vessels may arrive if they have been in a very high-risk area (currently identified as China, including Hong Kong and Taiwan) in the previous 14 day period.
  3. Additionally, if the ship or any of its crew has been in a very high-risk area since 1 January 2020 then:
    1. The entire crew are required to remain on the vessel for the duration of the visit.
    2. Any member of the ship's crew interacting with Ports of Auckland staff are required to wear the appropriate personal protection equipment including mask and gloves.
    3. Ship crew are to restrict contact with Ports of Auckland staff to essential contact only and only communicate with Ports of Auckland staff wearing face masks.
    4. If the vessel in port requires external services, maintenance or provedoring the contractor will be required to provide its own transport to the vessel, wear appropriate PPE and have completed its own risk assessment. Ports of Auckland will provide a transport escort where required.

Very high risk area is defined by the World Health Organisation. Their latest updates are available here: https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/situation-reports/

This is an evolving situation and Ports of Auckland are taking a cautious approach, which we acknowledge is over and above Ministry of Health advisory. We believe this is important to the wellbeing of our employees and wider community. We will continue to assess the situation and will update you if anything changes.

Kind regards,

Craig Sain
