Ports of Auckland today published its new port development proposals for public consideration.

In early 2012 we published concept images of the future port layout, that weren’t terribly popular.
We listened to what people said and had a rethink, focussing on efficiency before expansion. We now know that we can make the port a lot more efficient, which means we will be able to operate for decades on our current site without much expansion.
We still need some expansion to cater for Auckland's growth, so we've developed two proposals to show how the port could grow over the next few decades. We don't need to choose a layout now, it will be years before we need more space, but we do need to start planning.
