Port safety

Ports of Auckland is committed to providing a safe environment for staff, customers and visitors.

Safety is a number one priority at Ports of Auckland.

The nature of our 24/7 operations means the Port can be a high risk area.  Ensuring the safety of our staff, port users and the public requires commitment, vigilance and innovation at every level of our organisation.

It is also critical that visitors to the Port understand and follow our Health and Safety guidelines.

General safety guidelines

  • Ports of Auckland has an Occupational Safety and Health Policy and requires that regular port users sign a Safety Commitment Document, provide a copy of their Health and Safety Policy and Procedures, and comply with the requirements set out in the Ports of Auckland Safety and Health Management System.
  • Do not enter operational areas unless you are authorised to do so and have met the required Health and Safety induction, training and PPE standards.
  • You must wear a hi-vis vest and sturdy shoes in all operational areas.  Hard hats are also required in some areas.
  • Drivers should take special care at Port entries, following New Zealand road rules and common driving courtesies. Remember that trucks and large machinery have varying levels of visibility.
  • The Port speed limit is 30mh/ph. Please drive to the conditions.
  • Operate an amber flashing light when driving on port property. Always keep to roadways and follow directional signage.
  • Pedestrians must use existing pedestrian crossings and yellow hatched walkways at all times. Do not walk into operational areas.
