The Wiri Inland Port can act as a hub for transport operators.

The Wiri Inland Port is a 15-hectare depot off Wiri Station Road in South Auckland, close to the major freight routes of State Highway 1 and State Highway 20.

It has all the road, yard (including empties), e-commerce, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and Customs functions of our traditional seaports.

A full security programme enables uninterrupted movement of containers between Wiri and our other ports.

The Wiri Inland Port rail exchange under construction

First train enters Ports of Auckland's Wiri Inland Port, 2010.

What Wiri offers is flexibility: the ability for shipping lines and cargo owners to tailor the supply chain to their requirements, taking advantage of Wiri’s flexible demurrage options, proximity to New Zealand’s manufacturing and warehousing heartland in South Auckland, and storage space.

A rail exchange connecting the Wiri Inland Port with the Waitemata seaport was completed in early 2010, creating significant supply chain efficiencies.

For example, cargo owners will be able to drop off and pick up their cargo at Wiri instead of trucking it through central Auckland. Once fully operational, the initiative will save an estimated 100,000 truck movements per annum, creating significant community and environmental benefits.

Ports of Auckland and the NZL Group have established a subsidiary company, CONLINXX Limited, to manage the Wiri Inland Port in South Auckland.
