Ports of Auckland has an active community sponsorship and events programme.
As a city port we like to support events and activities that will benefit the Auckland community, and give the public an opportunity to get behind the ‘red fence’.
Our ‘dancing’ tugs are a popular attraction on the waterfront.
Kicking off the New Year, the Company will join in Auckland's Anniversary Weekend celebrations by offering a special series of free boat tours of the seaport. Last year, we hosted more than 1,000 Aucklanders over two days!
Six lucky community members will also have the chance to win the prize of a lifetime - a ride on one of the our famous tugboats during the third annual Tugboat Race as part of the Auckland Anniversary Regatta.
Next year, Sunday 14 March 2010, Ports of Auckland will also be the main sponsor of the Round the Bays fun run. Ports of Auckland Round the Bays attracts more than 60,000 participants each year for an 8.4 kilometre fun run along the Auckland waterfront between Quay Street and St Heliers. It is the largest mass-participation sporting event in New Zealand.
Ports of Auckland celebrates its shared heritage with the city.
We have nominated the Waitemata Harbour Clean-up Trust as one of the charities that will benefit from the proceeds raised through event entry fees.
Another highlight in our calendar is ‘SeePort’ – a ten-day event giving the people of Auckland and visitors to the city the opportunity to see their city port up close. Activities include free daily double-decker bus tours behind the red fence, displays inside Captain Cook Gate and story-tellers and activities for children.
Ports of Auckland is also a sponsor of the Auckland Heritage Festival, an annual fortnight of events and activities celebrating the unique stories and secrets of Auckland’s history. As part of the Festival, Ports of Auckland offers free tours of the port aboard a vintage steam tug, the William C Daldy, and guided walks of the historic Quay Street red fence. If you missed September's Heritage Festival, you can still enjoy our Red Fence Heritage Walk by downloading a copy of our Red Fence Heritage Walk brochure and an audio of the tour for your mp3 player.
Other key Ports of Auckland sponsorships include the Onehunga Community Festival and the Ports of Auckland Logistics Chair at the University of Auckland.
