Piloting the Company through the current challenging and changing times, Ports of Auckland’s Directors draw on in-depth knowledge developed during successful careers in shipping, logistics, transport, law and management in New Zealand and abroad, and extensive experience at both executive and board level.

John Carleton Lindsay BA, LLB
Chairman
Mr Lindsay became a Director in March 1996 and was appointed Chairman in May 2009. He is also Chairman of Holcim (New Zealand) Limited, the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Auckland Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and is a director of a number of other companies. Mr Lindsay has extensive operational experience, having been Chief Executive and a board member of large New Zealand and Australia-based manufacturing and service companies with international businesses, and as a member of the executive committees of several national trade associations.

Peter Vernon Hubscher MNZM BTech (Food Tech)
Director
Mr Hubscher was appointed a Director in October 2004. He is also Chairman of World of Wearableart Limited and Te Kairanga Wines Limited and a Director of Auckland Regional Holdings. As Managing Director of Montana from 1991 to 2004, he was instrumental in building the premium wine business and, in 1998, became a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to the wine industry. Mr Hubscher was named Executive of the Year in the Deloitte Management Magazine Top 100 Awards in 1999 and was awarded an honorary doctorate by Massey University in 2002.

Emmet John Hobbs BA (Political Science)
Director
Mr Hobbs was appointed a Director in September 2007. He is also Chairman of New Zealand Rental Holdings Limited and Smart Environmental Limited, a Director of Mainfreight Limited, and was appointed to the Auckland Regional Holdings Board in July 2008. Mr Hobbs began his business career with the Union Steam Ship Company, later becoming a founding Director of Pacifica Shipping and was Executive Director for Brambles in Australia and Europe and Director of Freight for both Qantas and Australian Airlines. He is a facilitator for the University of Auckland Business School’s Executive Development programme and a consultant to an Australian industrial services company.

Graeme Scott Hawkins BSc, BCom
Director
Mr Hawkins was appointed a Director in September 2009. He is a professional Director, with extensive experience in senior management roles in the private sector, including at Fletcher Challenge and as Chief Executive of Dominion Breweries in the late 1980s. Mr Hawkins is currently Chairman of Watercare Services and Southern Cross Healthcare, and a Director of Cavalier Corporation. He has previously been a Director of a number of dairy industry organisations including Fonterra.

Andrew Bonner BA (Hons)
Director
Mr Bonner became a Director in December 2009. He is also a Director of Marlborough Wines. Mr Bonner was formerly an executive with Fosters Group Limited where he ran the import arm of the Fosters business in Australia, was Managing Director of Fosters Group New Zealand and also Managing Director and Chairman of Fosters Group Pacific Limited in Fiji . He is currently a founding partner in an export focused wine business.

Peter Allen Dunlop
Director

Mr Dunlop was appointed a Director in March 2010. He is a Master Mariner with 40 years experience in the shipping and transport industries, including as a Ship’s Master with Jardine Matheson, and cargo handling, operations and line management with a number of international liner / parcel and bulk operators. He is currently also a Director of a project / heavy lift marine logistics company operating in Australasia, South East Asia and the South Pacific.

Jens Baekkel Madsen
Managing Director
Jens Madsen has been Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Ports of Auckland Limited since 1 September 2007. Jens joined the Port Company in February 2006 as Chief Operating Officer responsible for the overall operations of the Company, including strategic planning.

Prior to joining Ports of Auckland, Jens served with the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group including 20 years abroad in senior management positions in six different countries.

A graduate of the A.P. Moller Shipping/Management Business School (1979), Jens has also attended the EU Commission sponsored ‘Executive Training Programme in Japan’ (1985-86), as well as the ‘Accelerated Development Programme’ (London Business School, 1992) and the ‘Senior Executive Programme’ (Columbia University, 1999).
